Coronavirus variants have been reported in at least two area counties.
Chase County is reporting three cases of the B.1.1.7 UK variant over the past week, while Morris County has one case of the P.1 Japan-Brazil variant. Both are of concern because they seem to transmit more easily between people and cause more significant health problems than the original or “wild” version of the virus.
Lyon County had 10 confirmed cases of the UK variant as of last week.
As far as weekly stats are concerned, Chase County ha self-reported two new community cases in its weekly report Tuesday, pushing that category total to 203. It also has three active cases and three deaths in community cases. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has Chase County with 270 total cases, up two from last week, and three deaths.
KDHE says Coffey County has 736 total cases, up three from last week, and 23 deaths.
Greenwood County now has 559 total cases, up one from a week ago, and 11 deaths according to KDHE.
Morris County has self-reported 629 cases, up one from a week ago, and 22 deaths.
KDHE says Osage County has 1,250 total cases, up six from the prior week, and 25 deaths.
KDHE says Wabaunsee County has 682 cases, up two from last week, and 13 deaths.
