Upgrades are coming to the Jones Park baseball and softball fields in Melvern courtesy of a recent grant award to the city and USD 456 Marais Des Cygnes Valley.
USD 456 Superintendent Joe Sample recently announced that the Walter S. and Evan C. Jones Testamentary Trust awarded the city and district with a $55,000 grant to that end. According to Sample, the grant will be used to enhance the park’s handicap accessibility.
Sample says the district and the city have been looking into how to upgrade the facilities for a little over the past 18 months before packaging the plans together and submitting them to the Jones Trust. Sample went on to say the updates are “something that is definitely needed” both for the community and its visitors.
Details are still being finalized for the project, however, preliminary plans are to have initial concrete work completed by the fall.
