Flooding is becoming an increasing concern for the KVOE listening area due to heavy levels of rainfall over the past 24-hours.
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Lyon, eastern Morris and Wabaunsee counties until 2:15 pm Sunday.
Flood warnings have also been issued for several local bodies of water including the Marais Des Cygnes River above Reading until Monday morning. As of 9 am Sunday the river was at 17.3 feet, just below the 19 ft flood stage. The river is expected to crest at 21.8 ft before dropping back below the flood stage later this evening. A second warning goes for the Salt Creek near Lyndon until Monday morning. Shortly after 9 am Sunday, the creek crested above the 10 ft flood stage and currently stands at 10.02 feet.
The Marais Des Cygnes River near Quenemo is under a separate flood warning until 11:35 am Monday. As of 10 am Sunday the river was at 13 ft, just below the 17 ft flood stage. The river is projected to crest at 18.6 feet Sunday afternoon and fall back below flood stage late Sunday evening.
An urban and small stream flood advisory is in effect for Southern Lyon County until noon Sunday. A separate advisory for Northeastern Lyon County goes until 10:15 am. A third advisory goes for Osage and Wabaunsee until 12:15 pm Sunday.

The continuous heavy rainfall has led to some minor flooding on major arterial, residential and collector streets in Emporia. The Lyon County Highway Department has begun closing county roadways due to the rainfall.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Greenwood County from the late evening Saturday into the early morning Sunday. No severe weather activity was reported according to the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office.
There is still a marginal risk of severe weather activity for the listening area through Sunday. The main concerns are for hail and high winds.
Rainy conditions are likely to remain the norm clear into next weekend. Flash flooding is possible according to the National Weather Service.
