Aside from a shift in location, things went smoothly for Emporia State University’s undergraduate commencement activities Saturday.
This year’s graduates had several adjustments through COVID-19, and President Allison Garrett says they have worked through those with flying colors.
Garrett says it’s a time of celebration — and deservedly so.
Emporia State moved the undergraduate ceremonies from Welch Stadium inside to White Auditorium with a threat of ongoing rainfall. It also had its graduate and postgraduate ceremonies at Welch Stadium on Friday, with those attending dealing with scattered showers. In both cases, mask use and social distancing were part of the picture, although ESU allowed students and family members to take mask-free pictures at the end of each ceremony.
Close to 1,000 students got degrees this weekend, either at the undergraduate or graduate levels.
