Treyson True earned the first medal of the 2021 5A State Track and Field meet for Emporia High.
Treyson finished in 4th place in the 3200 meter run finishing with a personal best time of 9:33.904. Out of regionals Treyson was seeded 12th.
Thomas Hazen of St. Thomas Aquinas won the 3200 meter run with a new state meet record time of 9:05.389.
Treyson also earned a medal in the 1600 meter run finishing in 6th place.
Elizabeth Willhite finished in 7th place in the 1600 meter run to earn a medal. She also placed 12th in the 5A girls 3200 meter run. She was seeded 13th coming out of regionals.
Trinity Ervin finished in 2nd place in the discus. Her first throw of 118 feet was good enough to earn a silver medal. It was also her career best throw.
Kyle Obermeyer finished in 6th place in 110 hurdles. He earned a spot in the finals due to a disqualification. Obermeyer also finished in 12th place in the 300 hurdles.
In the 200 meter dash prelims Emporia Highs Zachary Jackson finished 6th in his heat and 13th overall.
Daniel Knapp finished in 11th place in the triple jump.
The boys 4×800 relay of Lane Wullschleger, Blake Spellman, Michael Shi and Caden Wilson finished in 15th place.
Kaitlyn Ayer finished in 14th place in the long jump.
Josiah Huber had a no height in the pole vault.
Fred Jackson finished in 12th place in the 400 meter dash.
The 4 by 100 relay team of Derrick Keys, Daniel Knapp, Aiden Jackson and Zachary Jackson finished in 13th place.
The 4 by 400 relay team of Fred Jackson, Aiden Jackson, Blake Spellman and Cooper Rech finished in 13th place.
As a team the Emporia High boys finished in a tie for 18th place with 11 team points. The Emporia High girls finished in a tie for 22nd place with 10 points.
The start of the 5-6A State track and field meet was delayed by 4 hours for field events and 1 hour for track events due to weather.
Classes 3 and 4A will compete on Friday. Classes 2 and 1A will compete on Saturday.
