A handful of Lyon County roads remain closed due to flooding.
The latest list from the Lyon County Highway Department is as follows:
*Road H-5 from Roads 215 to 225
*Road J from Roads 190 to 215 (also Prairie Street starting at 30th Avenue)
*Road 215 from Roads F-5 to J-7
Meanwhile, a flood warning continues for the Neosho River at Emporia until 9 am Saturday. The river is at 21.88 feet, just below a tentative crest of 21.91 feet — which is above two previous forecasts for the crest level. An estimated time for going back below flood stage is being recalibrated. Moderate flooding continues at the gauge.
The Neosho at Americus is in a flood warning from 5:45 pm Friday to 8 am Saturday. The river is at 16 feet and climbing. Flood stage is 26. The current forecast has the river cresting at 26.1 feet by early evening and going below flood stage shortly afterward.
Further west, the Cottonwood River at Florence is in a flood warning until 2:30 am Saturday. The river is at 22.98 feet, down from a tentative crest of 24.6 feet but above flood stage of 20 feet. It could go below flood stage Friday afternoon.
The Cottonwood from Cottonwood Falls to Emporia, as well as the Neosho River at Neosho Rapids, should stay elevated but are not expected to flood.
10 am Friday: Neosho River now in moderate flood at Emporia gauge; more roads closed near Emporia
The National Weather Service has adjusted two flood warnings for the Neosho River in Lyon County, starting one earlier than first planned and delaying the other.
The Neosho River in Emporia is now in a flood warning until 9 am Saturday, reflecting a rapid rise in levels and moderate flooding currently underway. The river is at 20.7 feet, above flood stage of 19, and could crest at 21.3 feet Friday afternoon. Prairie Street, or Road J, north of Emporia has water on it at this time. The river could go below flood stage Friday night or early Saturday. The warning was originally set to begin at 10:45 am Friday.
The Neosho River at Americus, meanwhile, won’t be in a flood warning now until around 5:45 pm. The warning goes until 8 am Saturday. The river is now at 14.5 feet and climbing towards flood stage of 26 feet, but it may not reach that marker until late Friday afternoon. It could crest at 26.1 feet and go below flood stage before midnight.
Further west, the Cottonwood River at Florence is in a flood warning until 2:30 am Saturday. The river is at 24.5 feet, down from a tentative crest of 24.6 feet but above flood stage of 20 feet. It could go below flood stage Friday afternoon.
The Cottonwood from Cottonwood Falls to Emporia, as well as the Neosho River at Neosho Rapids, should stay elevated but are not expected to flood.
Meanwhile, the Lyon County Highway Department has closed more roads:

*Road J from Roads 190 to 215 (also Prairie Street starting at 30th Avenue)

7:30 am Friday: Flood warning canceled for Marais des Cygnes above Reading; one Lyon County road now closed
A flood warning has been canceled for one river gauge in Lyon County. Warnings are still planned for two other gauges.
Set to begin at 10:45 am is a warning for the Neosho River at Emporia until 7 am Saturday. The river is actually in flood now at 20.71 feet, above flood stage of 19 and the initial crest projection of 20.6. Revisions for the crest and later river levels are in the works.
Set to begin at 9:30 am is a warning for the Neosho River at Americus until 12:20 pm Saturday. The river has been as high as 19 feet and fell to 12.74 feet. It is now at 13.6 feet with flood stage at 26 feet. It could crest as high as 26.8 feet Friday and go below flood stage Saturday morning.
The warning for the Marais des Cygnes River above Reading was canceled after the river went below flood stage earlier than expected. The river crested almost two feet above flood stage Thursday evening.
After anywhere from one to two inches of rain in the north half of Lyon County early Thursday, the Lyon County Highway Department announced one road closure early Friday:
*Road 215 between Road F-5 (Americus Road) and Road H
Three to five inches of rainfall were reported in parts of Morris County early Thursday. Dunlap was reported as flooded Thursday afternoon. Damage reports are pending. It was also flooded May 16 after heavy rain that afternoon.
6 am Friday: One river-based flood warning continues, two more set to begin Friday morning in Lyon County
A flood warning continues for one river gauge in Lyon County and may well start soon for two others.
Set to begin at 10:45 am is a warning for the Neosho River at Emporia until 7 am Saturday. The river is actually in flood now at 19.26 feet, above flood stage of 19. It could crest at 20.6 feet early Friday afternoon and go below flood stage Friday night.
Set to begin at 9:30 am is a warning for the Neosho River at Americus until 12:20 pm Saturday. The river has been as high as 19 feet and fell to 12.74 feet. It is now at 12.9 feet with flood stage at 26 feet. It could crest as high. 26.8 feet Friday and go below flood stage Saturday morning.
Underway now is a flood warning for the Marais des Cygnes above Reading until 9:30 am Friday, but this may be canceled soon. The river apparently crested at 20.9 feet Thursday evening, above flood stage of 19. It’s currently at 12.7 feet and falling.
Meanwhile, southeast Morris County, including Council Grove and Dunlap, remain in a flood warning until 7 am. Morris County law enforcement reported Dunlap as inundated — after the town was flooded May 16. A bridge near the town was also reported as washed away.
Here in Lyon County, there are no reports of road closures despite rain amounts over 2 inches in some spots north of Emporia. Three to five inches of rainfall were reported in parts of Morris County early Thursday.
