The Emporia Senior Center is ready to return to its normal routine, and part of that happens right after Memorial Day.
Bingo returns Tuesday evening, and Director Ian Boyd is itching to get started. He says this is good news for seniors and others using the building.
Bingo is the center’s biggest fundraiser, generating over $70,000 per year, and Boyd says the Senior Center will have some adjustments due to COVID-19. Concessions initially will be pre-packaged. People will also need to wear masks and observe social distancing spaces, even though that’s not mandated by Lyon County.
There will also be a new bingo machine, courtesy of a percentage matching grant from the Emporia Community Foundation.
Besides bingo, all other activities — except for Friendship Meals — return to the Senior Center on June 7. Hours will be 9 am to 4 pm weekdays, with the building closed from noon to 1 pm. Fundraising luncheons will take place starting June 9 and will take place every other Wednesday afterward.
Boyd thanked the center’s board of directors for their work and community members for their patience as activities have been shelved.
