Lyon County commissioners spent much of Wednesday’s study meeting fielding budget requests from department heads and allocation agency directors.
Lyon County Extension presented a $300,000 request, flat with the last two budget requests. Also presenting were:
*Newman Regional Health: $380,000 to replace equipment in the Jones Breast Care Center, an $80,000 increase from the 2020 request.
*Lyon County Treasurer: $327,740. Treasurer Sharon Gaede proposed a 3.5 percent increase in the salary line item for longevity as the only increase. If approved, that would mean a roughly $6,500 increase for salaries and around $21,000 total once benefits are included.
*Lyon County Register of Deeds: $312,299. Like Gaede, Register Wendy Weiss proposed a 3.5 percent longevity increase while keeping the rest of the department budget flat.
Commissioners will field another budget request during their action session Thursday when county libraries present their 2022 proposal. The other main discussion point will be whether to continue the county’s COVID-19 disaster declaration until at least July 1. The meeting will begin at 9 am Thursday in the County Courthouse.
