Two Kansas City-area residents were taken to Newman Regional Health for treatment after a crash on Emporia’s northern edge Thursday.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the wreck on Interstate 35 near the East Sixth Avenue exit happened just before 5 pm. A car driven by 35-year-old Amanda Ford of Olathe was northbound when it was hit by a southbound van driven by 34-year-old Crystal Van Dusen of St. Louis. Early indications are Van Dusen turned sharply towards the center median, causing her van to go across both southbound lanes and the median before hitting Ford’s car.
Ford and a passenger, 30-year-old Jacob Kissner of Olathe, were both taken to Newman Regional Health for suspected minor injuries or possible injuries. Van Dusen and a passenger, 36-year-old Matthew Patterson of Quenemo, were not hurt.
