It’s just about time for Symphony in the Flint Hills.
The sold-out concert begins at 6:30 pm near Council Grove, but activities begin well before that as Operations Manager Kelly Tastove mentioned on KVOE’s Morning Show this week.
In addition, there will be education tents from 1:30-5 pm, barbecue tent and merchandise on site.
The Kansas City Symphony will perform the concert and Kansas Governor Laura Kelly will have some remarks near the start of the performance. All the activities will be at the North Lakeview pasture just south of Council Grove. As far as COVID-19 protocols, mask use and social distancing are recommended.
Meanwhile, the juried Prairie Art Exhibit and Online Auction is available at the Symphony in the Flint Hills Gallery in Cottonwood Falls from 10 am to 3 pm through Tuesday.
Organizers are watching the weather Friday afternoon and evening, hoping to avoid a repeat of 2019 when severe weather damaged much of the on-site equipment and forced the event to be canceled. The tentative game plan is to move activities to Sunday if a postponement is needed. If it’s canceled, general admission ticketholders will be eligible for refunds.
COVID-19 canceled last year’s concert and related activities.
