In recognition of Flag Day, the Emporia Lions Club lined the Prairie Street Pedestrian Walkway over I-35 with American flags.
Club president Cole Cassity says that Flag Day is a great opportunity to continue Emporia’s proud tradition of honoring and memorializing its servicemembers.
Although it is a national holiday, Flag Day is not as often known or celebrated as other veteran-specific holidays such as Veteran’s Day or Memorial Day. Cassity says this is something they have come to realize in recent years and offered advice on how residents can commemorate the day.
Cassity went on to say that even though Flag Day only comes once a year, celebration and appreciation of our nation’s servicemen and women should be a year-round effort.
Flags for the event Monday were provided by the American Legion Patriot Guard.
