Fundraising continues for the Law Enforcement Torch Run and for Ron’s Ride, KVOE General Manager Ron Thomas’ 10-mile bike ride to Olpe, to benefit Kansas Special Olympics on Wednesday.
Lyon County Undersheriff John Koelsch says there will be some adjustments with Wednesday’s schedule, but the public likely won’t notice.
A parade will start around 9 am Wednesday at 12th and Commercial. Special Olympians will carry the torch at the start of the parade. There will also be the now-traditional stop at Hetlinger Development Services before riders head out of Emporia.
The state games have been canceled for a second straight year as a COVID-19 precaution, but athletes have been cleared to practice and some activities have returned to the calendar for later this year.
Evora Wheeler offered a pie of the winner’s choice and a pan of cinnamon rolls as part of an online auction on KVOE’s Morning Show on Monday. The fundraiser generated over $400, with $285 raised through the pie and another $125 from the cinnamon rolls.
People can still donate to Ron’s Ride by calling the station at 620-342-1400. Other options include:
*Going to KVOE.com and paying with credit card or PayPal
*Sending check/cash to Ron Thomas, PO Box 968, Emporia, KS 66801
*Text 620-344-1402 with your name and donation amount.
Koelsch says there is another fundraising connection. People can take part in a virtual 5K or 20-mile bile ride through June 21 as part of the Emporia Recreation Commission’s Super Series. More information is available at www.emporiarec.org, with information coming soon at www.ksso.org.
