The MIAA announced its academic awards for transfers and newcomers for the 2020-2021 school year.
Football player Peyton Henry, softball player Alexis Dial, and track & field athletes Jake Johnson, Ashley Cookson, and Claire Crawford all earned the MIAA Academic Excellence Award.
Four Hornets were named MIAA Scholar-Athletes. Jenna Ramsey of Hutchinson, Ehlaina Hartman of Spearville, Emma Furnish of Goddard, and Topeka native Megan Stretton. In order to be recognized as a Scholar-Athlete students must maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher through two semesters per NCAA guidelines.
While 93 Hornets made the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. The Honor Roll Requires a 3.0 over two semesters to be recognized.
As many as 249 Emporia State Student-Athletes were named to the MIAA Academic Honor Rolls, 13 were named MIAA Academic Excellence Award winners, and 10 MIAA Scholar-Athletes.
