A late rally by the Emporia Senior Legion wasn’t enough to push them past Chase County in game one of Friday’s doubleheader as they fell 7-5.
A slew of errors helped Chase County build an early lead that Emporia could not overcome. Chase County began the scoring with two runs in the first and would add to lead their lead scoring one run in the second and two in both the third and fourth.
Emporia scored three runs in the third thanks to hits by Logan Thomas, Bobby Trujillo and Drew Hess. The Seniors scored two more runs in the seventh but could not complete the comeback.
In their second game, the seniors fell to Ottawa 9-7. Emporia took an early 6-3 lead thanks to a single run in the first and five runs in the second.
Ottawa would overtake the lead for good scoring runs in the 4th, 5th and 6th innings.
Legion Coach Anthony Markowitz says they need to tighten up defensively.
The Senior Legion will have another doubleheader Saturday as they play Chase County at 11 am and Ottawa at 1 pm.
The Emporia Junior Legion split their first two games in the Andover Tournament Friday losing their first game to McPherson 11-0. The Juniors bounced back in their second game defeating Liberal 20-15.
Emporia cracked the game open scoring 13 runs in the first inning. The juniors would add five more runs in the second and single runs in the third and fourth to clinch the win.
Jaxon Dial was four for five at the plate and scored three runs in the game. Andrew Ruxton was the winning pitcher giving up seven runs off six hits in one inning.
Markowitz says he was proud of the bounceback by his players in game two.
The Junior Legion is scheduled to play Wichita at 9 am Saturday.
