Struggling with offense the past several weeks, the Kansas City Royals finally got some clutch hitting as they defeated Boston 7-3 and won the series in the process.
The Royals went down 2-0 in the first inning but battled back with one in the second and three in the third, powered by a bases-loaded, two-out double on the 10th pitch of the at-bat by Jarrod Dyson. Whit Merrifield hit a two-run home run as part of a three-run sixth inning to seal the deal.
Mike Minor pitched 6 2/3 innings for the win, but the Royals may have lost Adalberto Mondesi — again. Mondesi was just activated Tuesday after a stint on the injured list due to a hamstring strain. He was removed in the seventh inning with discomfort in his side. He started the season on the IL with a right oblique strain.
With the win, the Royals are now 32-38 on the season, 10 games behind the Chicago White Sox in the American League Central. The Royals are off Monday before beginning a three-game series on the road against the New York Yankees on Tuesday. First pitch will be at 6:05 pm on 14 KVOE and 96.9 FM.
