The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office has concluded its report after fire destroyed a pickup truck and a cabin at Lake Kahola in early April.
Chase County Fire Chief Steve Fillmore says the report confirms the early investigation’s findings that the fire April 2 started in a pickup on the south side of the lake, adding the ignition point was the bed of the pickup. The fire spread to nearby grass and traveled around 150 yards before reaching a cabin owned by Emporia Assistant Fire Chief Brandon Beck.
The cause of the fire is considered as undetermined.
No other structures or vehicles were affected and there were no injuries. Dunlap and Chase County fire crews eventually put the fire out.
