The Reading Tornado Trot and Trail is set and ready to go this weekend as last year’s event was canceled for pandemic reasons.
This year, a pancake feed and charitable ATV ride will be a part of the festivities.
Saturday at the Reading City Park, the Trot and Trail will feature a 5K run/walk, 14.5-mile gravel bike ride, or a 26.5-mile gravel bike ride. Organizer Jann Briggs discussed the different activity options that participants can choose from.
Registration opens at 6:30am with a rolling start for all events 7:00am – 8:00am. Briggs also says that attendees can also register on-site if they do not have the time to do it beforehand.
The $25 donation to enter will go to Handlebars for Hope, a local nonprofit that supplies bicycles to those who otherwise would not be able to afford them both locally and abroad, specifically in Mexico.
The Reading Benefit Fire Department will also be hosting a pancake breakfast where any donations will be accepted.
Reading Fire Chief Scott Wilkerson talked about the feed this Saturday at the fire station and how the donations will be a great help.
Reading will also be abuzz this Saturday because of the ATV benefit ride taking place to support Wade’s Ride.
Each year, Wade’s Ride raises funds for HALO-style sleep sacks for newborn babies at Newman Regional Health and helps to fund the annual Community Baby Shower taking place in the spring.
Kevin Sorenson of the Reading Fire Department spoke with KVOE about registration and route information.
It will cost $10 to participate in the ride and for the food or $20 to also have a hand in the poker tournament.
