We are inside 10 days from the Fourth of July, and Emporia’s fireworks sales and discharge window officially opens Sunday.
Fireworks can be bought and shot off from 10 am to 10 pm most days between Sunday and July 5. The exceptions are July 3-4, when the hours are 10 am to 11 pm.
Emporia Fire Marshal Reason Bradford says Class C fireworks, or so-called commercial fireworks, will be allowed. Several popular fireworks will not be allowed, including bottle rockets, lanterns and metal sparklers.
Bradford says common sense should prevail if you’re planning to buy and discharge fireworks.
Bradford reminds residents to be mindful of neighbors and pets, who may not be thrilled to have fireworks nearby.
Fireworks cannot be discharged on a street or in a park. Fireworks discharge is also not allowed within 250 feet of a hospital or medical facility.
Emporia’s official Fourth of July fireworks show is on the holiday at Emporia State University. Other area shows include:
*July 3: Admire, Cottonwood Falls, Lebo
*July 4: Council Grove
