With steady rainfall continuing Tuesday, and likely to continue through much of the coming days, several area counties will remain in flood watches through mid-week.
A flash flood watch involving Lyon, Coffey and Osage counties as well as separate flood watches for Chase and Greenwood counties have all been extended until 7 pm Wednesday evening. Current rainfall totals:
*KVOE studios: 1.1 inches
*Emporia Municipal Airport: 0.65 inches
*3 miles east of Emporia Municipal Airport: 0.57 inches
*10th and Weaver: 0.30 inches
*South and Sylvan: 0.80 inches
*Allen: 1.3 inches
*Americus: 2.5 inches
*Bazaar: 0.37 inches
Despite the steady precipitation over the past several days, the Lyon County Highway Department has opened several roads just southwest of Emporia:
*Road 160 from Roads G to J
*Road 170 and F
*Road H from Roads 160 to 165
Road 155 remains closed between Roads F-5 and G at this time.

11 am Tuesday: WEATHER: Lyon County Highway Department opens three roads south of Emporia
Rain chances continue across the KVOE listening area, but Lyon County’s gravel road network is now opening back up.
The Lyon County Highway Department has now opened several roads just southwest of Emporia:
*Road 160 from Roads G to J
*Road 170 and F
*Road H from Roads 160 to 165
Road 155 remains closed between Roads F-5 and G at this time.

Flood alerts continue through 7 pm Tuesday, with a flash flood watch involving Lyon, Coffey and Osage counties and separate flood watches for Chase and Greenwood counties currently underway.

More rain chances are in the offing through Thursday, meaning more chances for flooding across our area.
The National Weather Service has flood alerts up for most of the KVOE listening area, all of which currently end at 7 pm Tuesday. A flash flood watch is up for Lyon, Coffey and Osage counties, with a separate flood watch for Greenwood County until 7 pm and another flood watch for Chase County from 7 am to 7 pm.
The Lyon County Highway Department adjusted its road closure list a few times Monday, closing Road H between Roads 160 and 165, Road 155 from F-5 to G and Road 160 from G to J — while opening Road W near Neosho Rapids as well as Road 150 from M to W.
