Families receiving emergency food assistance through the Kansas Department for Children and Families will see those benefits expanded.
This week, Kansas Governor Laura Kelly authorized an emergency allotment that increases a household’s monthly benefit to the maximum allowed, depending on a family’s size. Another $14.5 million per month could come to Kansas as a result of this action and related action by DCF Secretary Laura Howard.
This new allotment is available through New Year’s Eve or whenever the federal government ends its public health emergency declaration, whichever happens first.
Residents already receiving emergency food assistance, or SNAP benefits, do not need to take any additional action to take advantage of the new funds. Residents who are not receiving food assistance but would like to apply can go online to www.dcf.ks.gov.
