Emporia will host the Pro Disc Golf Association Junior World Championship from July 7-10.
This is Emporia’s third time hosting the PDGA event. Tournament Director Doug Bjerkaas talked about how the event has grown since it came to Emporia in 2018.
Bjerkaas says the Junior Worlds has seen a 25% growth since it was last held in 2019 alone and they are expecting to have 750 people in Emporia for next week’s competition. The event was supposed to be held in Emporia last year but was canceled due to coronavirus.
The competition comes at a perfect time, as Bjerkaas explains many families are making the trip to Emporia as part of their summer vacation plans.
The PDGA junior world championship kicks off the first of its events Saturday with a trilogy challenge flex-start at Soden’s Grove. The junior doubles championship will take place Sunday at Peter Pan Park.
