Lyon County’s road network is almost completely back to normal following recent heavy rainfall.
One road closure was announced Thursday afternoon. According to the Lyon County Highway Department barricades have been placed at Road V6 going South from Road 145, which turns into Road V7, then curves East on Road 135 to Road W, then Road “W” south to Road 123.
Meanwhile, the vast majority of Lyon County roads and intersections announced as closed earlier this week due to flooding have reopened:
*Road 150 and P
*Road 155 between F-5 and G
*Road 190 between K and Kansas Highway 99; between L-5 and M
*Road 215 between F and H5; at J
*Road 240 between D and E-5
*Road K between 190 and 210
5:30 am Thursday: Flood watch extended for Greenwood County, but overall risk is waning
The risk of flooding should be coming to an end soon.
After rainfall tallies of 4-9 inches since Friday, rain chances are limited to the late afternoon hours Thursday and we dry out until at least Monday afternoon. There is still a flash flood watch for Lyon, Coffey and Osage counties until 7 am Thursday. Greenwood County is now in a flood watch until 7 pm Thursday.
Several Lyon County roads and intersections were closed Wednesday and remain closed at this time:
*Road 150 and P
*Road 155 between F-5 and G
*Road 190 between L-5 and M
*Road 240 between D and E-5
*Road 215 between F and H5; at J
*Road K between 190 and 210
Rain totals have been impressive:
*KVOE studios: 1.6 inches Wednesday, 4.4 inches since Friday
*Emporia Municipal Airport: 1 inch Wednesday
*Americus: 3 inches Wednesday, 5.5 inches since Friday
*Lebo: 7.5 inches since Friday
*Neosho Rapids: 9.35 inches since Friday
Rivers have elevated, and in the cases of the Cottonwood at Emporia and the Neosho at Neosho Rapids, they are approaching flood stage but will probably not go into flood unless we get heavy rainfall Thursday.
