It was not a happy 4th of July for the Kansas City Royals. They were outscored by the Minnesota Twins 6-2.
The Royals scored their 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th. Jarrod Dyson drove in both runs with a single.
Starting pitcher Brad Keller lasted 6.1 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits with 7 strikeouts. Richard Lovelady gave up 3 runs in the 7th inning on 2 home runs.
The Royals begin a 3 game series with the Cincinnati Reds Monday night. Mike Minor will be the starting pitcher with the first pitch at 7:10p.
In a surprise move before Sundays game, the Royals activated outfield Andrew Benintendi from the injured list.
To make room on the roster the Royals shipped Edward Oliverias back to Omaha.
Salvador Perez will be the only Kansas City Royals representative at the All-Star game. The reserves and pitchers were announced yesterday and no Royals were added to the roster. Perez will be the starting catcher for the American League. Perez will also compete in the Home Run Derby next Monday, July 12th before playing in the All-Star game next Tuesday, July 13th.
Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani has become the 1st player to be selected to make an all-star team as a hitter and a pitcher. Ohtani was voted in as the starting designated hitter and was selected as one of the pitchers for the American League Sunday.
