Two people were taken to Newman Regional Health after a wreck near Emporia early Tuesday morning.
The wreck happened just before 1:20 am. Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Tony Fuller says a vehicle was northbound on Kansas Highway 99 and missed the approach to the Cottonwood River bridge at Road 155, where the highway moves quickly to the west and then back to the east before the highway straightens out and becomes Commercial Street.
Lyon County deputies say the truck, driven by 20-year-old Charles Olson of Allen, hit several trees before his truck came to a stop. Olson and a passenger, 20-year-old Dixie Kennedy of Purdum, Nebraska, were both taken to Newman Regional Health with non-life-threatening injuries. Neither were wearing seatbelts.
The crash is still under investigation.

The vehicle then ran into a tree line but stopped before going into the river.
The wreck happened shortly before 1:30 am. Further details are currently pending. Names of those involved have not been released.
