Lyon County’s overall COVID-19 caseload and active count both increased Wednesday.
Lyon County Public Health reported nine new cases, the most in a single update since nine new cases were announced April 30. The overall caseload is now at 4,307.
Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern says several cases were sent to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for testing to see if they were variants of the original virus. Results are pending. As of now, Lyon County has 18 confirmed variant cases, 16 of the alpha variant and two of the delta variant.
The active caseload went up four and now stands at 27. That’s Lyon County’s highest total since the county had 27 cases May 6.
Deaths remain flat at 86. Deaths awaiting final cause information from KDHE remain at one.
