Saturdays at the Site was a great opportunity to turn back the clock and gain a better understanding of Emporia’s past at the Red Rocks State Historic Site.
ESU history professor Dr. Chris Lovett led a presentation about William Allen White’s role in the coming of America’s entry into the Second World War.
One aspect of the presentation was how the war abroad impacted White’s views against isolationism and how a single man’s work could have such influence on a national scale.
Dr. Lovett said that White was “foreseeing” political trends during the early 20th century that still have an impact today.
Local residents and even former students gathered to hear Dr. Lovett discuss the overall outlook of America as its involvement in WWII drew closer.
Saturdays at the Site will be on every 2nd and 4th Saturday through the month of October.
Next time on July 24, the Red Rocks State Historic Site will host live folk music featuring Emporia native Eric Murphy.
Further information and updates on Saturday at the Site can be found on the Red Rocks State Historic Site Facebook page.
