The Sunflower State games began this past weekend in Topeka. Over 6000 competitors are entered.
Emporia and area athletes earned their share of the first week’s medals including 12 Gold Medals.
Emporian Karalyn Karjala earned a gold medal in Target Archery.
In track and field.
Casey Helm of Madison earned a gold in the shot put and a silver medal in the discus.
Jesse Durst of Lebo earned a gold medal in the 1500 meter run.
Caleb Burst of Lebo earned a bronze medal in the 800, 1500, and 3000 meter runs.
Kyle Obermeyer of Emporia earned a silver medal in the 110 hurdles.
In Trap and Skeet:
Hunter McCoy of Emporia earned a gold medal in both trap and skeet.
Morgan McCoy earned a Gold in Trap and a silver medal in skeet.
Dayne Witherspoon of Emporia earned a silver medal in both trap and skeet.
Deryk Witherspoon of Emporia earned a silver medal in skeet shooting.
The Emporia Reds took 1st place in the 7U machine pitch.
Washed up Hornets finished in 1st place in Adult Competitive Volleyball.

Cruz Medrano of Emporia earned a gold medal in both folkstyle and takedown.
Takeo Medrano of Emporia earned a gold medal in Folke-style wrestling and a silver medal in takedown.
Holden Timmons of Emporia placed 3rd in both Folke-style and takedown.
Virginia Munoz of Emporia placed 2nd in takedown and 3rd in folke-style.
Nicholas Marcum of Emporia placed 2nd in Folke-style.
Davian White placed 3rd in folke-style.
Blaze Passmore of Chase County placed 2nd in both folke-style and takedown.
Kestin Kisling of Chase County placed 3rd in folke-style.
Gannon Hinds of Emporia earned a gold medal in Martial Arts Sparring and a bronze medal in Traditional Kata.
