Since his induction into the National Teachers Hall of Fame two years ago, Chris Albrecht has been extremely busy.
Albrecht has been a park ranger at locations in Nebraska and Maine. He’s also written a new book, “The Rediscovery of Hope and Purpose: Awakening the Human Spirit,” which officially had its worldwide launch at Emporia State University’s Visser Hall on Monday afternoon. Albrecht says the book had its origins with the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic — and also much further back in American history.
“Rediscovery” taps a lot of interactions, including late children’s book author Beverly Cleary, Field of Dreams Uganda Michael Warneke, Harvard President Lawrence Bacow, three-time NCAA national champion football coach Tom Osborne and Ken Deardorff, the last American homesteader. Albrecht says the main goal is to remind people tomorrow can be a better day than today.
This follows “Unconventionally Successful,” where Albrecht concentrated on “out-of-the-box” thinking or methods that led to unexpected successes.
With his other projects, Albrecht continues his role as a fourth-grade teacher in Brockport, New York. He is also reprising his role as “Dr. Dig” during a special event at the White Auditorium Little Theater at 4:30 pm Tuesday. People can excavate for shark teeth and other fossils as part of the event, which is organized by the Emporia Public Library.
