The Regional Development Association of East Central Kansas Board of Directors has two main items on the agenda for its monthly meeting Friday.
Board members will get an update on site closure and demolition process for the Renewable Energy Group biodiesel plant in southeast Emporia. This follows the Emporia City Commission’s termination of an incentive compliance agreement dating back to 2007 after construction began in 2008 and was halted shortly after due to the Great Recession, changing regulations and other issues.
The RDA board will also get an update on Fanestil Meats’ move out of the Cottonwood River floodplain. Fanestil moved its processing facility out of the floodplain just south of Emporia in 2014, but it has sought to exit the floodplain for several years before that. Production stops whenever there is significant flooding.
The RDA board meeting is at 7 am Friday at the Trusler Business Center.
