The Emporia Senior American Legion baseball team won a game and lost a game on day 1 of the Zone Tournament.
Post 5 opened with a 12-3 win over Ottawa.
Emporia scored 6 runs in the 2nd inning on 3 hits. They would add 6 more runs in the 7th inning on 2 hits. Cam Geitz was the winning pitcher giving up 3 runs on 4 hits.
In their 2nd game, Pittsburg run-ruled Post 5 13-1. Pittsburg erupted for 7 runs in the bottom of the 1st and never trailed.
Pittsburg added 4 runs in the 2nd and 2 runs in the 3rd inning. Emporia scored their lone run in the 3rd inning.
Coach Anthony Markowitz said they were able to set the tone in game 1 but did not carry it over to game 2.
Post 5 will play Ottawa today at 3 pm with the winner advancing to play Pittsburg in the Championship game at 5 pm and earn a trip to State.
Coach Markowitz says they need to be ready to compete.
Both games will be played at Sodens Grove.
