The inaugural Bryan Douglas Softball Tournament was played Saturday.
Organized by Gary and Sandy Loucks, the benefit tournament took place at Santa Fe Park at 9 am and continued into the evening.
Douglas’s wife Lori explained what community meant to him and what it means to her.
The tournament honors the memory of Douglas, a chiropractor and longtime member of the Flint Hills Optimists, who passed away in March after an extended battle with kidney cancer. Proceeds will benefit a local or area cancer patient as chosen by Lori Douglas. This year’s recipient is Emporia High student Austin Moore.
