It was tough to keep the excitement down at the Hetlinger Field Day on Friday afternoon, where the eager clients of Hetlinger Developmental Services were able to have a fun day in the sun after last year’s event was canceled.
The day was long-awaited as Hetlinger had to temporarily slow down operations amid the pandemic. Director of Day Services Jon Gausman says that it was apparent that both clientele and staff were ready to get back to normal.
The Field Day received significant support from the community as the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and Team Schnak once again helped to coordinate the numerous activities. Bike rides, blowing bubbles, cornhole and disc golf all were some
Lyon County Undersheriff John Koelsch says he is grateful for the collaboration between all of the organizations involved.
Hetlinger provides services to people with developmental delays and disabilities a place to thrive. Team Schnak co-founder Kent Schnakenberg says that all of the efforts made by Hetlinger and the community creates strong feelings of hope and empowerment.
There are more projects coming in the near future at the Hetlinger Building. A new greenhouse will be added to the list of special activities available. A horticultural therapist will possibly be brought in after the construction of the new greenhouse is complete.
