(CBS Sports) More signs point to Texas and Oklahoma leaving the Big 12 — and making that announcement soon.
CBS Sports was told the announcement to the Big 12 could come “within 24-48 hours” as part of a story Friday, while Horns247 reported both schools will tell the conference Monday they will not renew their grant of rights agreement with the conference.
Other reports indicate the wait could be longer — around two weeks.
The Big 12 has already said it expects the schools to adhere to conference bylaws and TV contracts. Both Oklahoma and Texas could owe around $76 million to the conference, but if they join the SEC as expected, that may not be a problem.
Another question now is whether the Big 12 adds teams or whether the remaining teams flee what’s left of the conference. Kansas is reportedly meeting with the Big Ten soon.
