In the Olympic action Sunday:
*The United States men’s basketball team suffered its first Olympic loss in 25 games losing to France 83-76 Sunday. Team USA missed its last nine shots, including five shots in a 21-second span in the final minute. France’s Evan Fournier hit a go-ahead three-pointer shortly after to lock up the win for the French. Team USA will have two more games in the group stage to qualify for the next round.
*U.S. swimmer Chase Kalisz earned America its first gold medal of these Olympics winning the men’s 400m individual medley. This was also Kalisz’s first gold medal in his Olympic career.
*The U.S. Women’s gymnastics team found themselves in an unfamiliar position at the end of the qualifying round Sunday, second place in the team standings. ROC, the team comprised of Russian athletes, finished the competition ahead of Team USA by nearly one full point. The historically dominant Simone Biles managed to finish in first place in the all-around with teammate Sunisa Lee close behind.
*American Jagger Eaton took home a bronze medal in skateboarding which made its Olympic debut Sunday. Japan’s Yuto Horigome won the gold medal.
*The U.S. softball team will look to avenge a loss from over a decade ago as they face Japan in the gold medal game Tuesday. The U.S. advanced to the medal game with wins over Mexico 2-0 and Australia 2-1. Japan beat Team USA for the gold medal in 2008.
