One of two Hartford residents accused of animal cruelty in a case that came to light in May will have a hearing Wednesday. Another has a hearing early next month.
Thomas Staggs has a pretrial and arraignment hearing at 9:30 am He’s facing 17 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty after authorities say 17 dogs, including 14 wolfdogs, were found in inhospitable conditions after neighbors complained about property at 303 East Grand in Hartford.
Staggs’ wife, Rhonda, also faces 17 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty. Her next hearing is Aug. 2.
The dogs were removed by Lyon County deputies, Lyon County Animal Control and the private organization Guardians of the Wolves after Hartford city leadership reached out for assistance. All of them were taken to undisclosed locations.
