According to Lyon County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern, the county’s supply of Johnson & Johnson vaccine is nearing its expiration date.
This was the main catalyst for an announcement by Public Health Monday that Aug. 7 will be the final day that residents can receive a Johnson & Johnson vaccine for the time being. Millbern says it is unclear when or if the county will have more Johnson & Johnson vaccines on hand due to a lack of availability on the national level.
Public Health has been offering both the Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines on a daily basis and that will continue for the time being. However; Millbern says there is a possibility that Public Health could return to the previous vaccination schedule.
Millbern says any change in the vaccination schedule would be a personal decision by Public Health administration and not the result of any shortages or lack of availability in the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines.
Vaccinations are available at the Flint Hills Community Health Center. Walk-ins are welcome, however, appointments are preferred. Residents can schedule an appointment for vaccinations by calling 620-342-4864.
