The doors of the newly renovated Abigail Morse Hall will be wide open to the public this weekend.
Emporia State University will hold a special ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house for the newly renovated resident hall Saturday morning. Renovations inside Abigail Morse began back in the spring of 2019 and saw the interior of the hall gutted with previous additions on the north and south ends being removed amongst the work.
ESU Director of Residential Life Cass Coughlin says while this is a new Abigail Morse Hall, there are several connections to the hall’s historic past including the use of nearly 100-year-old room doors as sides of the hall’s reception desk.
Coughlin says the doors were a particular piece that sparked alot of memories amongst alumni.
Abigail Morse Hall is the oldest residence hall on the ESU campus originally opening its doors in 1924.
A short program will begin at 9 a.m. on the west side of Abigail Morse. Self-guided tours will begin immediately following the ribbon cutting, at approximately 9:30 a.m. The open house will end at 11 a.m., with the last tour starting at 10:30 a.m.
