The masks are back out on Corky the Hornet — and everybody else either attending, working at or visiting Emporia State University in certain settings.
During lunchtime Friday, the university announced masks will be mandatory for all on campus using classrooms, labs or the Student Wellness Center, regardless of vaccination status. The change begins Monday. Masks are recommended inside all ESU buildings, including residence halls.
Director of Media Relations Gwen Larson says this policy going into the school year is adjusted from last year.
ESU says people who are sick or feel sick should not attend class or come to work, regardless of the illness. Students who need to miss class should email VPSA@emporia.edu and staff will let them know how to work with instructors. Employees who need to miss time should follow their department’s call-in procedures and work with their supervisors to make sure duties are covered.
Currently, this does not affect upcoming events like the Welcome Back Block Party, the university’s new Friday Night event schedule or athletics.
Kansas, Kansas State, Pittsburg State and Washburn have announced expanded mask protocols the past few weeks. Flint Hills Technical College has masks as optional at this time, and its current agenda for the Board of Trustees meeting Monday does not address potential changes in COVID-19 protocol policy.
