Recently, the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce had announced its rescheduled annual meeting set for Aug. 25 was a sellout. Now it has been canceled.
The Chamber made the announcement Tuesday in light of increased COVID-19 activity. Chamber President and CEO Jeanine McKenna says the organization didn’t feel it could “implement the proper protocols to keep everybody safe” after around 350 people signed up for the event at Emporia State’s Webb Hall.
The Chamber held a virtual event Jan. 29, and the hope was to have an in-person event until local COVID numbers began increasing and the delta variant became more prevalent.
The Chamber is now looking ahead to the 125th Annual Meeting, which is currently set for Jan. 21, 2022.
