For the first time since the start of the year, Lyon County Public Health is up over 100 active COVID-19 cases.
In its latest COVID update Wednesday, Lyon County Public Health reported 40 new cases bringing the county’s overall total since late last March to 4,518 total cases. 17 recoveries were also reported bringing the active total to 118 cases, above the 95 announced Monday.
This is the highest active total the county has seen since 109 cases were reported on Jan. 22. The last time active cases were above 120 was 135 cases on Jan. 21.
Of the active cases, 20 — or nearly 17 percent — are breakthroughs involving fully-vaccinated residents. According to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, the county has 56 variant cases with 38 of the delta strain and 18 of the alpha strain. Public Health says 17 breakthrough patients used the Johnson & Johnson or Janssen vaccine, 21 used Moderna and 10 used Pfizer. Several other breakthrough cases are currently under investigation.
Active hospitalizations are also on the rise increasing from two to five with deaths unchanged at 87.
