Lyon County’s COVID-19 spike continues, and based on two core stats it’s picking up steam.
Lyon County Public Health announced 47 new cases, the most in this current increase and the most in an update period since 58 cases were announced Jan. 4.
Active cases shot up from 118 Wednesday to 151 Friday, the most in that category since there were 154 on Jan. 18. Of the active cases, there are 27 — or almost 18 percent — that are breakthrough incidents involving fully-vaccinated residents. The percentage is up almost a full point from Wednesday’s numbers. Of the breakthroughs, 14 were vaccinated with Moderna, seven with Pfizer and six with Johnson & Johnson. Lyon County’s pandemic total for variant breakthroughs is 57, with 26 patients vaccinated with Moderna, 17 with Johnson & Johnson and 14 with Pfizer.
If there was any good news with the report, active hospitalizations dipped from five to four and deaths remained steady at 87.
