Emporia Police and Lyon County deputies worked together to arrest an Emporia man following an alleged pursuit late Thursday night.
Police Capt. Lisa Hayes says officers were dispatched to the Bluestem Farm and Ranch parking lot, 2611 West Highway 50, after a tip that 36-year-old Rolando Galindo was at that address to possibly pick up a green SUV. Officers saw a green SUV leave the lot and made a vehicle stop near Sixth and Prairie. As they identified Galindo as the driver, Galindo took off.
Officers pursued Galindo for several blocks before being called off by an EPD supervisor, then trailed Galindo without using lights and sirens at a reportedly safe distance and speed. However, Galindo allegedly swerved across lanes of traffic and almost hid a marked police vehicle head-on, triggering a second pursuit led by Lyon County deputies that went through southeast Emporia. At times, it was Galindo reportedly postured as if he had a gun pointed at authorities, and then allegedly drove at a semi, narrowly missing the truck.
Deputies successfully used a tactical intervention maneuver, where a law enforcement vehicle bumps a suspect vehicle to get it turned and eventually stopped, in the 300 block of Weaver. Galindo did not initially comply with law enforcement, who negotiated with him for roughly an hour before he surrendered.
Galindo was taken to Newman Regional Health for treatment of minor injuries. He was then officially arrested.
Formal charges are pending.
