Handlebars of Hope needs a handful of volunteers for its latest relief effort.
The organization provides bikes for people in Emporia that may need transportation, but it also does the same for people in Mexico — and it’s the southern delivery process that needs help Wednesday with anywhere from 75 to 100 bikes going to Mexico. Spokesman Scott Strahm says High Gear Cyclery owner Matt Brown has been heavily involved with this project for several years, and he thanked area residents for being generous.
Volunteers are needed between 3-5 pm outside High Gear Cyclery, 520 Commercial. Loading is currently the main need. Residents can call High Gear at 620-342-4977 or Strahm at 620-344-2072 with questions.
