“Health and taxes” isn’t exactly how the old adage goes when it comes to the only things that are certain in life, but both are on the Lyon County Commission’s action meeting agenda for Thursday.
Lyon County Health Officer Dr. Ladun Oyenuga has the monthly COVID-19 report around 11 am. Oyenuga’s report comes with Lyon County adding 185 new cases this month and active cases have quadrupled as of Monday.
On the tax front, commissioners will consider a resolution to extend the 1-percent countywide sales tax and put the matter to a public vote in November. The tax has been in place for a dozen years, and discussions are underway to extend it another 15 years. Emporia city commissioners could offer a letter of support during their action meeting Wednesday night.
Reports, three executive sessions and a potential decision on closing Road 30 at Road C are also on the agenda.
The meeting is at 9 am at the County Courthouse.
