Court proceedings will continue for the five suspects in the 2017 murder of Jesus Avila.
20-year-old Armando Nunez, 19-year-old Alan Alanis, 20-year-old Jovan Pecina and 21-year-old Andrew Granado all appeared virtually before Judge Merlin Wheeler for a status hearing Tuesday afternoon. 21-year-old Jordy Cornejo-Campoverde was not in attendance but was represented by his legal counsel Rick Meier.
Cornejo-Campoverde has already been charged as an adult and during Tuesday’s hearing, Nunez did not contest the motion to certify him as an adult in the case. Cornejo-Campoverde and Nunez will have preliminary hearings on Nov. 8, 9 and 10 at 9 am inside Lyon County District Court.
Meanwhile, motions hearings are coming for Granado, Pecina and Alanis to certify them as adults as all three were juveniles at the time of the murder. Granado will appear on Oct. 14 and 15 at 9 am in front of Judge Lee Fowler, Alanis will appear before Judge Wheeler on Nov. 1 and 2 at 9 am with Pecina scheduled to appear at 9 am Oct. 7 and 8.
All five have been charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, aggravated robbery, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery, arson and interference with law enforcement.
