The North Lyon County Veterans Memorial has a slew of activities upcoming this Saturday to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.
Spokesperson Dianne Bedner Smith says it is important for everyone to remember this is not a celebration of the day, but rather a memorial event. She says events such as Saturday’s are crucial to ensure that the lives lost that day are never forgotten.
The day’s activities begin at 10 am with a special memorial church service to include the lowering of the flag, a 21 gun salute and the playing of taps. Live music will begin at 10:30 am featuring performances by Lee Muller, Eric Murphy and Dave Newhouse.
Vendors will be on hand throughout the day from 10 am to 4 pm in addition to a car and bike show, a kiss the pig contest, pulled pork cookoff and much more. All proceeds from the day’s activities will support the North Lyon County Veterans Memorial project.
