The Athletic is reporting that The University of Cincinnati and Central Florida have officially filed applications to join the Big 12 Conference. The news was first reported by the Cincinnati Enquirer and UCFSports.com.
Cincinnati and Central Florida, along with BYU and Houston, have been discussed as potential additions to the league. Multiple sources have told The Athletic that the target date for the four new members to enter the Big 12 is the summer of 2023.
BYU is currently an independent in football, but Cincinnati, Houston, and Central Florida would need to notify the American Athletic Conference of their intentions to leave the AAC and then request Big 12 membership. A vote of Big 12 members could take place as soon as Friday to accept the applications of the four schools.
