A Madison business is getting federal grant funding to bolster its renewable energy use.
Kansas Maid, Inc., is receiving $20,000 from the US Department of Agriculture to help buy and install solar equipment. Once it’s completed, the project should replace almost 125,000 kilowatt hours of energy per year — nearly three-quarters of the business’ energy use. The USDA says it’s enough electricity to power 11 homes.
The grant to Kansas Maid is part of almost $80,000 granted to five businesses or residents across Kansas, with the goal to build new or to enhance existing infrastructure and help reduce energy costs at the individual, business or community level. Thursday’s announcement is part of over $460 million in similar grants nationwide.
