Six blocks, a lot of cool stuff.
That’s how Emporia Main Street Director Casey Woods describes the Great American Market, which takes over much of downtown Emporia early Saturday. Woods previewed the event on KVOE’s On-Air Chat on Wednesday.
Woods says everything — including the kitchen sink — will be available, with over 150 vendors ranging from individuals to businesses to community groups on hand.
Activities go from 7 am to 4 pm, but setup could begin as early as 4 am. Vendors and visitors are encouraged to wear masks and vendor booths will be spread out to account for social distancing. Hand sanitizing stations will also be available at the event.
As mentioned, KVOE will have our Sept. 11 Memorial Bell in the 700 block of Commercial between the Kress Center and Brady Optical from 7 am to noon. Residents can ring the bell to honor the nearly 3,000 people who died. They can also view a banner that has the names of the victims and ESU music professor Gary Ziek will also play Taps at 9:03 am, the time of the plane crash outside Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
