The incentive half of the #VaxToNormal campaign is over.
The incentive half, part of a two-pronged effort to increase COVID-19 vaccinations across the area, concluded with what organizers called the “super grand prize drawing” held at PrairieLand Partners John Deere on Friday.
Suzanne Worthen-Miller took home the big prize package, which included a PrairieLand Partners John Deere S-120 lawn tractor and utility trailer, a Green Mountain Peak grill from Waters Hardware, a saw and table from Mark II Lumber and more. Also:
*Emma Kluender won the runner-up prize, a tailgating package including a Blackstone Culinary Pro 3-burner gas griddle, Yeti cooler and other items
*Colton Edwards won a rest-and-recreation package, a weighted blanket from Triad Leasing and other “restful relaxation items”
*Sally Pargman and Sharon Bechtel won ultimate one-year memberships from Mr. G’s Express Wash
*Cheryl Knight won an Emporia State athletics package involving two general admission football tickets, a blanket, cold weather gear and $10 in game concession stand coupons
For fully-vaccinated youths, John Musick won a $500 shopping spree, while Kyler Worrell won a $300 shopping spree.
The campaign, organized by the Greater Emporia Area Disaster Relief Fund, has been underway since early June.
The campaign has been designed to increase vaccinations in Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Morris, Osage, Wabaunsee and Woodson counties, in part by using weekly prize drawings as incentives and in part by holding special vaccination clinics — sometimes in conjunction with testing clinics courtesy of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Plans for additional vaccination clinics are currently pending.
Over 2500 adults and better than 200 youths participated in the drawings.
